A great view of the surrounding towns of Saugatuck and Douglas await those who are willing to make the 282 step climb up the stairs to the top with a sand trail leading down to Oval beach and a swim in Lake Michigan as your rewards. Would definitely recommend having someone waiting with a car at the beach to pick you up if you decide to do both and don't want to climb the sand hill and walk back down the stairs in the opposite direction. To see how in or out of shape you really are give both ways up and down a try at least once. Bring the kids as it's fun for all.
Don't underestimate the steps... You will get tired! With a trip up. Once up... You can walk down the backside of the dune in the sand. This takes you to oval beach. If you don't want to scale the dune again... just follow the road back to the stairs parking lot... Easy walk that is just over a mile.
Def a good work out going up the steps, but the views up top was worth it

I loved climbing the stairs and seeing the view from the top. A little maintenance needs to be done at the top but beautiful and worth the climb.
