Beautiful spot in the center of Orr’s Island. Easy walk down to the cove. Great for kids, especially at low tide. Very interesting and breathtaking rock formations that have been upended over time.
Sept 13, 2020 - I spent 45 minutes at the Preserve yesterday in fine weather. The area was alive with birds of all sorts, especially the apple and cherry trees laden with fruit. Common yellowthroats, purple finches, blue jays, mourning doves, grackles, and more were in view. It was hard to keep up with binocular and camera!nnSeptember 3, 2020 - Autumn is in the air and some of our birds have begun to migrate. This little park is a good resting spot for warblers and the cove is popular with waterfowl now. Canada geese are congregating during their molting period and getting ready to head south. I've posted a couple photos for those who are interested.nnMay 23, 2020 - Spent an hour here this morning in lovely early sunshine.nBirds all over the marsh, in the woods and on the neighboring oceran.nTwo pairs of red winged blackbirds and song sparrows nesting in th marsh and the trees were filled with all kinds of song birds including several species of warblers, including the lovely yellow warblers. A male Baltimore oriole was calling at the top of his lungs, just radiate in the bright light. What a special place!nnMarch 18, 2020 - it was a lovely spring day today so I stopped in hopes of catching some birds. Nothing in view but I did hear an Eastern phoebe calling in the woods. Hopefully there will be tree swallows or Eastern bluebirds in the nesting boxes soon. I love this little park that lies close to my home. If I am looking for a quiet place to watch a few birds or to enjoy a small wetland, this is the spot. In the spring I know that I will find some red winged blackbirds on the cattails here, and the trees behind the marsh are guaranteed to have a range of migrating warblers, along with goldfinch, catbirds and others. Walk down to the water and you will reliably find common eiders, buffleheads, mallards and other waterfowl around the near shore or Rat Island depending upon the season. Each year the nesting boxes will host at least one pair of graceful tree swallows, entertaining with their soaring flights around the neighborhood. For a small park this place packs a punch so treat yourself to some relaxation.
Beautiful little nature park on Beals Cove.
Lovely refuge in the center of the village. Great views and easy trail.
Enjoyed our time there
