Located on Rockford's southeast side, at the edge of 8 acres of gorgeous woods, Surya Chandra yoga studio is a place of calm lighting, picturesque views, and a warm inviting atmosphere.nnEach week the instructor teaches a new lesson, comprising various poses, breathing exercises, core work, relaxation, and some lore. Students learn and grow in their practice, according to their individual ability. While advanced techniques and options are often introduced, each class is suitable for students of any level. Beginners are welcome.nnA typical class starts with a centering, then a gentle warm up series, followed by various standing and kneeling poses, and a few gentle movement sequences. Then some balancing poses, core toning, breathing exercises, and a sitting meditation. Students progress through a series of asanas, incorporating twists and meditation. A relaxing musical soundtrack accompanies each class.nnAnyone can reap the health benefits of a regular yoga practice. Formal yoga classes provide a community setting to practice yoga, taught by a certified instructor. Doctors and gurus the world over agree: yoga trains the mind and strengthens the body. Surya Chandra yoga studio provides a peaceful space to practice Hatha Yoga.
