Frank Holten State Park is a glorious, expansive park nestled on the edge of East St. Louis and easily accessible to the greater St. Louis Metro East community. There are several native habitats to explore and admire with some amazing plants and trees. It is home to diverse wildlife. It's a great place for walking, playing, relaxing, exploring, and more. It's a great space for photographers. There is a large lake and fishing is permitted.nnMy favorite parts of this park are the flowers along parks of the lake and the bald cypress trees along another part of the lake. However, there are many hidden and obvious gems throughout the park.
My family has lived across the street from this park for more than 40+ years and never has the upkeep been this bad. As a 12 (twelve) year old moving across the street from a state park, we watched tbe fish jump from the water sitting on our porch. Now, the cat-tails have taken over our view. This is really disheartening when our taxes are extremely high for the state average.
