A local and an American treasure. The history of the Mississippian people is rich there when the museum is open it is well worth the trip. The largest mound has a North American type of Stonehenge that aligns with the spring solstice and fall equinox. The land nearby offers wonderful hiking with wildlife and various habitats which vary with the level of water on the ground.
I've been many times. You have the walkers tramping around. But the historic significance of the remaining mounds whose culture once dominated both sides of the Mississippi is more. Much more. Educational purposes for young and old alike. Powerful thought provoking questions remain. Plus. It's just fun as hell! The surrounding area isn't much. And nestled i. There.. a real historical treasure.
