Piasa Bird

This location is honestly one of my favorite places to go! Whether it's to admire the beautiful artwork of the piasa bird itself or exploring the trails that are near it. I would 1000% recommend if you haven't been, to get your butt down there and enjoy some history of Alton along with experience some amazing hiking areas with options for shorter distance that are easier and also some challenges for those who are more adventurous

Easy to access and plenty of parking. Great viewing platform and interpretive signage. Very cool.

Very interesting landmark, however just wish the caves were still open to walk through.

Lovely place to hike. They have CAVES everywhere! There's alot more here than just seeing the piasa bird which is an amazing display of artwork and how they did it is beyond amazing. If you want to go into the cave go towards the construction place located by the construction place which is if you're looking at the piasa bird it's directly behind you back behind the parking lot. Oh yeah there's lots of racing going on here so be prepared to see those type of folks. Didn't bother me other than the noise.

The site is closed to the public. U can see the painting from the rest stop next to the highway but that is it. The area is gated off. Not worth making the effort for the drive in my opinion.
