Mother Jones Monument

Mother Jones fought for what she believed in, and we all get to reap the benefits. Her grave is well kept, and I'm glad to have gotten to get to know where she's at.nnThe grave is more or less in a corn field, but she is among strikers with whom she shared convictions. The area looks like it is generally full of labor activists, and that's interesting.

What a moving monument! Mother Jones was the heart of the labor movement, when the owners of mines, mills, factories and forges had the power of life and death over the workers. Many workers were just children. Working conditions were horrible. The armies of private security and mercenaries wantonly murdered union organizers and strikers. This monument also commemorates the men massacred at Virden IL in 1898. Lot of history here, right off of US Route 66.

We were driving on the freeway and we saw signs for this monument. It was small but the meaning behind it was huge. It did have a few informational signs

This is a real treasure to the memory of an amazing hero of our history. Go see it!
