10/10 recommend Shades Cafe! The food was so fresh & delicious with very reasonably pricing. Will definitely be returning with more friends and family! Sooo good. (Pictured is the Shades Hash) Also had a cinnamon roll that was so soft and fluffy with the perfect not super sweet cream cheese frosting. YUM . If you’re on the fence , go!

My family and I just had our Thanksgiving meal at Shades and I cannot brag on this restaurant enough. We had a separate room for our family and the food was absolutely superb!!!! I wish I had taken pictures. The owner Lori and her staff are the best and they took excellent care of us. Lori sent me a whole list of possible sides and desserts to choose from and the cost was very reasonable. Not one member of my family complained. As a matter of fact they were all talking about how great the food was and that maybe we should have Christmas there. If you ever need a gathering place for your friends or family this is definitely the place to go! I eat at this restaurant all the time and it has that small time friendly feel to it with great food. In addition, it has a very nice shop in the front of the restaurant where you can get cute gifts.

Shades never lets me down. Got an avocado BLT and the bacon is on point. Definitely worth a stop for food or coffee.

First and foremost this restaurant is outstanding. I eat here quite often and thoroughly enjoy the farm to table style dishes and fresh ingredients. The menu is also constantly evolving with a handful of items always available. You truly can’t go wrong with anything on the menu but my personal favorites are the chicken fried steak, beef hash, chicken parm sub, and the seasonal thanksgiving selection. My only concern would be the occasional inconsistency in portion size. Maybe a handful of times I’ve left still having some room in my stomach. Other than that truly a top notch establishment. Hands down one of the top 5 restaurants in the San Marcos area.

First time eating there. The food was delicious. The chicken fried steak was done perfectly and was tender. The dessert was absolutely delicious. Will definitely go back.
