This trail is beautiful and very enjoyable for both day hiking and backpacking.nMy wife and I went down this trail on a Sunday morning. There were plenty of people on the trail, but it wasn't crowded. We took our dogs, who were on leash the entire time. There were areas on the trail were we had to be careful with the dogs on leashes because it was a bit rough, but with a little care it was easily navigated.
This is one of my favorite hiking area. I've been visiting this area for over 40 years. Even though it is a strenuous trail, it is SO worth the hike to see some of the most beautiful and unusual features. I very highly recommend, but keep in mind, it is a challenging hike.
Beautiful area all along the stream. Loved seeing all the cascades and waterfalls. I want to do it in summer. Did not see any flowers on my hike.
Best trail there is. IMO. I've been there 4 times and haven't even gone to the Falls. Martha's Pretty Point is my favorite place.
My favorite hiking spot in the entire South. When you finally make it down to the falls and feel that temperature drop, then you round the bend and actually see the falls, it's a breathtaking sight. While the Park has recently added some cables to assist with some of the more difficult climbs, this hike is pretty strenuous. The 4.5 miles in to the falls isn't too rough. There are a few spots where footing is sketchy and a couple that may require some minor rock scrambling, but the 4.5 miles back out are serious. The elevation change is about 1000'. It definitely feels like more uphill than there was downhill for the 1st 2.5 miles or so back out. It's definitely worth the hike to see the falls, though.
