Large sign at parking, however easy to drive right past it. Parking area and trail is overgrown and full of debris, but that was expected. Tall grass on trail, and lots of bushes and wildflowers along the side. Wasn’t bitten but there were lots of bugs flying around (flies, bees, butterflies, mosquitoes). Spiders too. Saw deer and birds. There’s a clearing at the end of the trail with good river views and some sand. Watch for snakes and muddy areas.

I only took two of the trails and and a side trail to see General Greene, which was worth the trip itself. The 1st trail wasn't too exciting past the opening where you get great views of the oxbow lake. The Bates Ferry Road trail was much better and ends at the Congaree river/Old Bates river bend and what's left of the toll bridge that once crossed there. Next time out, I plan to walk the Sampson Island trail, amoung others. If you like quiet trails and a great scenic river spot, you can't go wrong here.
