Gray Arthur Grays Tax Services

After 7 years of using this tax service I can honestly say I will never use them again. For the last 7 years I have commuted 1.5 hrs to Arthur Gray and his tax team, and up until recently everything was ok. This year my wife and I didn’t get the amount of return we usually get, and you could tell by the staff. They treated my wife and I completely different this time because of our low return. So we ended up having to owe and we were not prepared to owe. After the nightmare of spending 2 hours in his basement office with one of his associates, it came down to us deciding not to file. At first I thought it was just me until my wife validated soon after we left. We just knew things were not right, so we asked him to not file our taxes and give us the print out and paper to mail them in ourselves. Once we got home we remembered our small business and student loan payments, and were grateful we asked him not to file. We emphasized this several times before leaving his basement office and he agreed even giving us an envelope and the paperwork to file at a later date.nnFast forward two weeks we decided to have them prepared again by another CPA who was closer, that was able add our small business expenses as well as the student loan credit. Wow! That’s the type of return we were used to, and yet after 7 years Grays tax service couldn’t produce even with their 20+ years of experience. So we have finished the paperwork and are set to file electronically and it gets rejected! Why? It turns out after spending more than an hour on the phone with the IRS, it was rejected because Grays tax service filed our return less than two days later. The result? An amendement is necessary. Once I found out I immediately called grays tax service and asked if they filed after we discussed not to and Arthur Gray (the owner) responded with “Sir I don’t run my business that way, if we discussed not filing and you told us not to file we wouldn’t have”nnMy response: “Well Mr Gray, the IRS is stating the return was filed and Grays tax service was the preparer”nnHis response: “Well if they are saying I filed it than I guess I filed it”nnMy response: “Mr Gray you just said you didn’t file it”nnHis response: “If the IRS is saying I filed than I did. Is there anything else I can help you with?nnAfter that I’d had enough and I explained that now I have to file an amendment which takes 8-12 weeks to process. He had no remorse, no sympathy, didn’t even offer to arrange any expedited services. He simply rushed me off the phone by agreeing with the amendment solution and that was it.nnNo loyalty! Despite the many years and the distance my wife and I spent to get to his office, and the loyalty we showed to his business meant absolutely nothing when the money wasn’t as much as usually. His entire mood, attitude, and professional changed for the worse. We still had to pay more than $200.00 out of pocket immediately for his service even though he literally just uploaded the file from last year and added childcare. No effort, no work, but he got his money so that’s all that mattered. Never going there again, nor will I recommend anyone to him or his associates.

I recently did my taxes there. I hadn't gotten back my state refund so I decided to follow up with the NC dept of revenue. They informed that the acct the money was supposed to routed to was not my bank but it included my social security #. They said when that happens the money goes back to the tax preparer. I asked the NC dept to mail my the document and it in fact has my social security number in the place where my bank account information should be. I contacted the agency twice about this and Arthur Gray denied everything saying they're not going to do anything about it. I even have my bank statements that show I never recieved my money. Aruthr Gray was EXTREMELY disrespectful and did not care I have evidence from the NC dept of revenue services or my bank statements. So now I have to get law enforcement involved because he refuses to take accountability that one of his workers did something wrong. So I will up there within the week with all evidence in hand because they owe me my money. But I will NEVER do business with them again. Not all black owned business deserve the time of day and they are one of them.
