From the Jacob Fork Parking area, pick up the Hemlock Nature Trail adjacent to the river. This trail provides several access points to cascades along the Jacob Fork River and connects with the High Shoals Falls Trail. Nearing the falls, the trail features a series of wooden stairs and bridges over the boulder fields. A wooden observation deck to the left of the falls that affords a closeup view of the 60-foot High Shoals Falls. You can follow the trail back the way you came for 2-mile out and back or take additional (steep) stairs up to the top of the falls as part of a 2.7-mile loop.

Large parking lot with lots of signage that makes me think this place can be a zoo but I arrived early and was the only one there. It's a one mile hike too the falls with three quarters of it being fairly flat and climbing steeply to the falls. The main trail looks like a dirt road at first so I'd suggest starting on the Hemlock Nature trail which runs into the main trail for a more scenic start. I didn't think the view of the falls was amazing at the end and may have been better from the other side of the canyon... but no real way to get over there. Still a nice falls.. be sure to check out the new spur trail big bear falls for a total hike around 2.5 miles

High Shoals Falls is 100% worth the trip. There is a nice visitors center, stop by there and grab a map. Please remember, do not take the full loop. Once you get to the viewing deck at High Shoals Falls, go back down. If you take the full loop back, there is nothing to see and not that easy to go down since it is a constant grade down hill

A must-hike in South Mountains, with year-round interest, winter being especially beautiful during snow or ice events. The loop trail is not terribly long, but there are steep sections, and lots of stairs, many of which are fairly tall and skinny. I recommend doing the stairs on the way up instead of down, so stay left at the loop fork. Use appropriate caution with kids or anyone with traction/balance issues. The trail also gets quite muddy during wet conditions, with some areas several inches deep with water and mud. The side trail to the other falls is worth the few minute jaunt as well. Viewing areas at the various falls are a little small, so please keep others in mind when taking photos/selfies, and ensure everyone has a chance to admire and capture the moment.

High Shoals Falls are beautiful but there are many other amazing trails to explore in South Mountain State Park. The have camp site with electric hookups and also primitive campsites further out on the trails. You could spend a great weekend out here. A great time for kid, adults, and even some walking trails for active elderly.
