Creeper Trail Campground Inc

Simple campground. We went there with a 40ft RV said we'd have no problems....driveway was a dirt road uphill going in & it had rained. I recommend staying here in a tent or small class c not a 40ft rv. Did have some full hookup sites. No debit machine or office for last min supplies so be prepared. Have cash!! The ride up to it is a nail biter!!!! The good part is...it's right at the creeper trail that goes all down hill into the next town. Had a blast but won't take our RV there again...

I must say this campground has gone downhill quite a bit in my opinion. Recently stayed there with a group. Horse manure everywhere in group camping area and parking lot. Never opened store. Stage area at end of group campground is dangerous and in dire need of repair including roof. Dog barking constantly at night. Someone riding motorcycle though camp well past what should have been quiet hours. Horses whinny right next to camping area at night. Way overpriced for the condition it is in. A real shame because the location is excellent. I hope the family can get it in better shape. We have stayed here quite a bit and this is the worst I've experienced.

pro's: ride your bike from your tent onto the creeper trail and all the way to Damascus.nVery remote and good for escaping the busier camping in Damascus.nUnimpeded view of the night time sky (unless it's cloudy).ncon's: no cellular service to pre-book your shuttle back to Whitetop from Damascus after riding the trail.nHit or miss on the RV hookups... Some electrical and some water supplies were not working when we were there.nAs someone else mentioned in a review... a little expensive for what you get.nCamp roads are not well maintained and can be tricky for pulling a trailer or for smaller cars too.

BE AWARE - IN DISREPAIRnnWe booked this campground based on earlier reviews. We arrived and learned the campground has changed ownership and has gone downhill. The site we booked was supposed to be a full hookup for an RV. The site did not have sewer and was on a 2-ft slope inappropriate for an RV. To reach the site, we had to drive a rutted pot-holed steep dirt road.nnAlso, we had tent campers with us who needed bath facilities. The bathhouse is about 1/3 of a mile down the steep dirt road. We left.nnWith improvements, this could be an ideal campground for folks wanting to ride the Creeper Trail.

Spent 2 nights up in the Virginia Mountains at this campground. Arrived in the pouring rain and rather late. Called the owner to tell him we were running late and he was kind enough to wait for us to arrive and showed us to our site in the dark.nWe were camped on a ridge overlooking the office/store/bathhouse and nestled among hundreds of Christmas trees. Rather nice views, even tho it was cloudy and or raining the entire time we were there.nEnjoyed the Virginia Creeper Trail where the trail starts about 100 yards from the campground for a long down hill ride.nThe roads in the campground are gravel and at the time a bit washed out due to all the rain. The one to the office is short and steep and the road to the site was steep too. Didn't need the 4 wheel drive to pull the pop-up camper to the site, so guess it wasn't too bad.nNothing to complain about, enjoyed my stay.
