I have been going there for over 40 years! It is one the most peaceful places still available to view history, nature, and just relax! Great shelter house and picnic area. Restrooms but no water. I recommend it for everyone!

“Boonslick” is a term often appearing in Missouri names and history, so it is fitting that this once prominent but now out-of-the-way place is an historic preservation site. I grew up seeing the granite monuments marking the Boonslick Road that then because US 40 - and then I-70 in Missouri’s eastern half. This place does a great job of showing what that was all about: getting salt, used for food preservation and other uses from a natural source in pre-refrigeration times. I wish there was a spur trail to the two furnace sites to the east of the salt spring, but I also understand why they kept it simple. Trail is an easy short hike. Interpretive signs are very good, and - oddly for a small and isolated location like this - the new picnic shelter is very large and very nice. And besides: the drive on Missouri 87 out of Glasgow is totally worth it!

Always enjoy taking a walk through and rereading the signs.
