Jackson Elementary School

Great school. My kids are/were in the performing arts program. The teachers are great.

My experience started out bad with this school. I received a letter in the mail stating my son did not get in, then I received an email stating that he did. I received no communication regarding times for registration so my son missed his opportunity to meet his new teacher. He was devastated. Throughout the year parents are asked to send money for things (SOTA dues and a sock fundraiser in my situation) just for my son to come home and say his teacher claimed to not have gotten the money (sent 50$ to school with my 3rd grader). They do not write receipts and the only form of payment they accept is cash. Magically that money was found when I emailed the teacher and copied in the principal. They use the outdated method of sending communication home with students via a folder. If you don't have constant communication with your child's teacher you will NEVER know what is going on in the classroom. All students do not get the opportunity to shine in the SOTA program. Most students will be in the background when it comes to performances and plays and sadly from what I've seen its the students with real promise and talent. Some of the staff is impersonal and not very approachable. There were times I went to pick my child up and waited for a long period of time to be let into the front office, had to ring the bell several times. Just a horrible experience for me and my child, this was his first and last year! The school in my zoning area has a better score overall than this one. I thought this would be a good fit for my son because he is musically inclined, I thought wrong. He experienced bullying and is relieved to be going to another school for the upcoming school year.

This school is not what like anything I expected. The administrative staff is awful. The phones have been broken couldnt reach the office. Children are bad and dont get disciplinary actions. The performing arts school doesnt do anything spectacular.like they should. They cater to the 5th grades fror shows. The teachers dont teach anything but GMAS. Ive had to recheck class and homework that was geaded incorrectly
