New Focus Academy

Hi my name is Tyler Wingertzahn. I am currently a patient of NFA. This program is new and I arrived in January of 2019. With being a new program and being here in the first year of the programs life me and all the other patients are what I consider Ginny pigs. That’s fine I new I would be when I got word that I was coming to this program and I was told that by other therapists in other programs. Things I like about the program is they provide us more freedoms then probably any other residential treatment center. They have had to take freedoms away since they opened because of us as patients breaking rules and breaking trust. Thats completely our fault though. They still do have surprisingly many freedoms and it’s amazing. The staff team is extremely solid and I trust a couple of the staff members a lot so basically what I’m trying to say is right now the staff team got me and they got each other which is a nice feeling because it makes me feel like I’m not so alone here. I don’t make friends with the students because in other treatment centers I’ve made mistakes with the students but basically the staff team is good and NFA really tries to hire good staff. They have let go a couple staff members because they just didn’t preform to the standards required for this job and were just unprofessional and they noticed it and made the decision. Things are kinda crazy right now the coaching coordinator unfortunately had to leave due to personal reasons and they don’t have many call ins in case something happens. They have a supervisor call in that lives local (In Heber city) and I would recommend they hire strictly call ins for emergency’s. I also think they put to much faith in us. They need to set the line and kick us out of program or scare us like beyond scared straight or sum when they think we aren’t making progress or have multiple incidents that are major. They have only kicked one student out so far. Those are a couple things that I think they need to work on but I’m not talking bad on the program at all. I love the program but like a lot of programs they have things to work on. And don’t be discouraged by anything I say or us being Ginny pigs because it’s really not a horrible thing.
