Friendly folks who manage their dogs well is the best part of this park. There's water, and a bowl when I was there. The surface is a pretty fine gravel, soft packed, and I didn't see any poop. Bags were available. The usual double entry, minus 1 star for the surface, but I don't have much experience with city dog parks. I will go back during our family's visit. ¹
The people really take care of this park! Wonderful community
Shaw Dog Park is a fenced city park run by volunteers. It has become a collective back yard in an area where backyards are small or nonexistent. Some patrons drive from other neighborhoods to give Fido a chance to run and socialize. People are welcoming and love chatting about their dogs. The dogs tend to be well behaved and very friendly. Some of them even go around the park greeting each human or inviting them to join in a game of fetch. No kidding! The Park has a small fenced area for pups under 25 pounds that may not be ready to hang out with their larger friends just yet; and gets busy around noon and after 4 pm. It’s mostly frequented by adults of working age, but all are welcome. You can meet very interesting people there, sit on a bench under a tree and watch the parade of breeds (so many!) or dress your dog up (and yourself) for their annual Halloween Dog Custom Party and competition. A couple of issues that the volunteers are working with DC to fix: The water faucet leaks and a puddle forms at the bottom of the park when it rains or snows— dogs love it, humans not so much. It’s a nice place for both dogs and people alike to spend a couple of hours a day.
Nice dirt and gravel (rock) park. Everyone was friendly enough. A few dogs got excited and were correcting other dogs mixed in with a nervous dog... almost got out of hand. Everyone please use body blocking and don't reach in with your hands to get your dog until you've created space. Good way to make a casualty of your hand. Other than that it was a very pleasant visit. As with most dog parks... not everyone picks up after their dog.
Nice dog park, see many great breeds. Dogs are definitely more friendly and outgoing than some owners.
