We went (a group of 4 adults in our 50’s) to the cave on July 11, 2020. It was a VERY hot day outside but the trees on the hike (climb!) offered some shade. We read all the reviews and followed the directions and easily found the cave. It was a climb that made us exert ourselves and we were breathless when we reached the top. As mentioned in previous reviews, the trail is very narrow at first, and then it opens up. I’m not sure why a lot of rocks are on the trail, but it sometimes made the footing rather unstable. We spent a little time in the cave (which was so much cooler than outside) and then took our time coming back down. The trip coming down was precarious-it would be easy to loose one’s footing and fall-so definitely a good idea to move carefully and not too quickly. When we got to the bottom we found a nice little waterfall to the left end of the creek (when looking down from the hill). This was not an easy hike/climb, but it was really beautiful and worth the effort. We are all very glad we made the journey! The entire trip up and down with time spent in the cave took less than 45 minutes.

Short but challenging hike to find an amazing cave complete with bats. We enjoyed it.

Awesome! Very steep but short hike. Very rocky so wear good shoes. I am glad I read previous reviews on how to find it. You would never know the trail starts where it does(not marked in anyway) Like others mention park at Desoto Park go over bridge on left, curve around to right on path and you will see a trail just passed the fence. It is overgrown and you would miss if not told. Very skinny path at first then opens up. Lots of quartz rocks. Not a big cave inside but cool and scenic up there. Check yourself for ticks when your done!

The scenery was pretty but the hike to the cave is a little rough. Definitely want to have shoes with good traction. There are signs saying to stay on the paved trail but you need to go off the trail to get to the cave. We didn't go inside because it looked a like sketchy and tight. To find it go from the parking lot at DeSoto park and walk straight up the hill through the woods. The cave is not really worth the hike since you're not supposed to go off the trail and there isn't a trail to the cave. Pinnacle mountain state park would be a better choice to go hiking.
