Los Teques was born as a modest village on the banks of the crystalline San Pedro River, furrowed by streams and springs, with a frosted blue sky, with small herds of cattle, with fields of sugar cane, coffee, yucca and vegetables, with sandy streets, with nights of mist, with houses of mud and tiles, with people moving to distant places in beasts of burden and lighting the nights with rustic homemade oil lamps. On October 21, 1777, it was elevated to an ecclesiastical parish by Bishop Mariano Martí, after a pastoral visit that he carried out in the area, confirming the need to provide the sector with a parish church to spiritually benefit its inhabitants. This date is taken as the official and documentary date for the anniversary celebration of the City. On March 17, 1853, the day the Congress of the Republic ordered the creation of the Municipal Council of the Guaicaipuro Canton, initiating the municipal regime. On February 13, 1927, Los Teques was designated the capital of the Miranda State. Los Teques is the name of a Caribbean indigenous group that dominated the mountainous region that is known today as Altos Mirandinos, in the Miranda State. Its leader was the indomitable warrior Guaicaipuro, an indigenous man who led the resistance to Spanish penetration in the north-central region of Venezuela.
