Fortín España was built in the 17th century, recently restored, initially created to control the commercial passage and the protection of the island of pirates or attacks coming from Juangriego and Pedro González. There was communication between El Fortín Spain and the Fortin de La Galera Monument located in Juan Griego through the use of salvage shots and lights reflected by mirrors. This small fort and the other forts together with the Castillo San Carlos in Pampatar and the Castillo Santa Rosa in La Asunción formed the block of military architectures of colonial data built for the defense of Margarita Island.
