Founded in 1966, this space currently houses around seventeen thousand pieces, pieces that give an account of the historical evolution of the country through the representation, in coins and / or bills, of its most significant epic events and characters. The creation of the numismatic room adds two important antecedents. The first dates back to 1943, when the then Ministry of Finance gave the Central Bank of Venezuela 124 pieces of gold, silver, nickel and copper. Thus, the coin collection of the issuing entity was born. Then, on August 10, 1956, the BCV's Numismatic Section was established and its direction was entrusted to Mercedes Carlota de Pardo, specialist and author of a book that is considered vital in the bibliographic repertoire of numismatists: Venezuelan coins. The Central Bank of Venezuela has a series of collections among which we can mention a numismatic collection considered one of the most important of the country. Includes legal tender and commemorative coins, medals, decorations, tokens or signs, reseals, essays, dies, dies and pieces minted abroad, some of which served in the past as legal circulating in Venezuela, as is the case of the macuquinas and morocotas. Banknotes, specimens, vouchers, proofs, sketches, and plates complement the collection. In 1966 the first numismatic museum in Venezuela was installed in the headquarters building of the Emitting Institute. The most recent acquisition, made in 2004, is the invaluable collection of two thousand numismatic copies of the defunct Bank of Maracaibo, which in the future will be permanently exhibited in that city, at the headquarters of the BCV in the west of the country.
