The Cuartel San Carlos is a colonial military building of Caracas, Venezuela today turned into a National Historical Monument, it is located between the corners of Dos Pilitas to Cuartel San Carlos in the Altagracia Parish of the Libertador Municipality Its construction was ordered by the then captain general and governor of the Province of Venezuela Don Luis de Unzagay Amenzaga in 1787 to avoid possible English invasions to the city since that area was the natural entrance to Caracas from the Caribbean Sea, the construction is concluded in 1792 including numerous military spaces for education, shelter weapons, room, dungeons, common areas and a large land without buildings around the barracks for a real cedula that prevented construction near the area. The structure is rectangular with walls 100 meters long on each side with guard posts in each corner, has two levels and presents. On July 14, 1811, to celebrate the publication of the Act of Independence, the tricolor flag designed by Francisco de Miranda and approved by Congress, is hoisted that day in the San Carlos Barracks and in the Plaza Mayor.
