I was calling to get a quote for rental unit insurance . Subsequently I also took up and purchased a policy.nThe wait for an agent to deal with me was fairly brief and the agent was able to explain the policy in detail giving me very accurate lowdown on the policy.nWhen I called to make payment I was once again informed of the policy lowdown and the 48 hour exclusions upon payment and the cooling off period.nBoth experiences were conducted in a most agreeable way.

Poor service. I had my road side assist with them which covers lost car key. Lost my only car key, called them and they said the only thing they can assist with is towing the car back to home or locksmith.

I’ve been a customer of AAMI since the first add for them appeared in Western Australia. Last renewal I decided that I would look and see if there was a cheaper alternative, there were quite a few. I called AAMI and asked if they would match one of their competitors. The AAMI representative on the phone said that AAMI was a premium provider, and we could go with a cheaper option but it likely wouldn’t come with all the extra’s in my current policy. So, in the end I decided to stay with AAMI.nnSome months later my wife finished her shift at the hospital to find that someone had broken into her car and damaged the inside. The police were called, and all the usual things happened. We registered a claim with AAMI and once the police released the car, they had it towed to an assessment center. This left my wife without a car. Of course, our policy didn’t cover car rental, but AAMI said they would help us get a discount. With the discount the rental was more expensive than the rental place down the street.nnThen AAMI informed us that our car was too badly damaged and would be a write off. We asked if we could buy the car back as salvage. AAMI said this was not an option our only choice was to cancel our claim and fix the damage ourselves or take the payout. The payout was for the insured amount of the car, but we could in no way replace that car for that amount of money. The AAME representative then told us that she didn’t really work for AAMI but some other company that handles these types of claims on behalf of multiple insurance companies and if we were with one of the other, we would have likely been able to buy our car back as salvage. Oh, by the way we asked the service guys who have our car what they are going to do with it and they said, “fix it and sell it of course”nnWe were then told because of COVID that we would not be able to collect any of our personal effects from the car, but they would have them sent to us and that we should provide photographs and receipts of anything that was stolen up to 1,000 in value would be replaced. More fool me I put the real value for the items of around 600 dollars into the claim expecting that we would get back the items that were left in the car. Nope, we were then told that there was nothing in the car that they could send us. We then tried to get AAMI to at least give us the maximum payout value of 1,000 dollars to cover the jacket and sunglasses and other bits ane pieces we are now never going to get back. AAMI decided it was well with in their rights not to return our personal items in the car or pay for them.nnSo here is my wife working as a Midwife in the middle of COVID with no help for a rental, all her personal items stolen with an unapologetic insurance company following the absolute letter of the policy. It seems to me that AAMI has done quite well in this instance we paid premiums for years then they paid us out got the car all the items in it and will likely be able to turn around and sell it at a profit.nnMy question to AAMI is where is the primum service your representative described? When we finally get a new car it will be insured by someone besides AAMI or Suncoup (AAMI’s parent company).
