Panagia Gorgoepikoos Monastery

We were on a segway tour of rural Geelong and did a quick search for the nearest purveyor of Greek orthodox literature (Specifically "The Mountain of Silence: A Search for Orthodox Spirituality by Kyriacos C. Markides") and were directed to this amazing monastery. We spent a blessed and spiritually fulfilling six hours exploring this incredible place. The monastery and it's grounds were unfortunately under construction and closed to visitors, so we did need to scale a fence, which was a drawback, but understandable, so I haven't deducted any points for that. We found a caged saint and some newly constructed play equipment. At the time of our visit, no monks were using the swings, which seemed a shame. There was a slight curfuffle when we accidently segwayed over an ancient carpet (rug?) and this let to a "Benny Hill-esque" chase scene involving an alarming number of monks (however many monks you're picturing, triple it! - there was, like, a LOT) - but all in all, an amazing place and highly recommended.

So privileged and blessed to have this monastery! The beautiful new church is coming out magnificent! The book shop has so much to choose from too and not just books. Make sure you have an extra layer, it's quite breezy, perfect for picnics with the kids when it's sunny. The scenery, the farm animals, such serenity, and the sisters are so welcoming and warm! And the monastery needs support! We All - and Even More Our Children - are in great need of their prayers! Feast day on October the 1st. Once you get there, you just don't want to go !!

Good place

One of the most peaceful and spiritual places to be. When you visit here, it's like going home, you feel warm,safe and loved. The sister's are warm and welcoming and make you feel special. This is my home away from home, not just for me, but for my family too. My daughter's love it here. VERY highly recommended to anyone looking for that spiritual pick me up. You can feel the holiness, just love it.
