Believed by many to be the birth place of the cooking skill, cook island is still an important place of pilgrimage for cooks from all corners of the world and of all cultures. There are decennial contests held which last for 10 days. The first 6 days are often a grueling competition while the last 4 days are generally of feasting and skill sharing in nature.nnThe artifacts found on the island include spoons, knives, rolling pins and salt shakers dating as far back as the mesozoic era. The island during its off season is usually only visited by the winners of Iron Chef to add onto the islands extensive recipe library.nnIt is said that there are recipes for every species of animal alive today and countless more now extinct.

Sea Turtles!! Cook Island is a great spot to explore the reef below the waves. So many varieties of sea life. We saw wobbegong sharks, angelfish, old wives and even clown fish like Finding Nemo hidding amoung the anemone.. oh and lots of sea turtles! They were huge and so awe inspiring to swim next to. There is an amazing reef to explore with several swim throughs. I have visited here a few times now, I highly recommend the dive team at Kirra Dive On The Tweed who are heaps of fun to organise a local dive with.
