Exhibition until 14 November features Jo Darbyshire's amazing surrealist installation composed of found feathers of Australian birds, an eye, referencing heaven and earth. Must be seen to be truly appreciated. Emu, cockatoo, kookaburra, duck, owl, heron, the list goes on. Some species threatened or endangered which makes it all the more powerful to me. Local artists make the world go 'round.

As I walked in to Jo Darvall's exhibitions ideas of silk prints and gossamer kimono bodice wrapped my minds eye whilst calligraphy and gestured brush strokes tumble for place in my brain. Getting closer impressions of australian bush emerged . Like like the scrub all over perth. Like a walk in the park. Then a sence of blue, more than just under painted blue but the blue of a harsh light or the middle of the day . Glared eye squinty blue. Having tried to judge my experience and coming up with "a health giving meditation of gesture and colour" like a house plant that gives comfort and companionship, whilst being a little bit exotic. I sought to know a little more and read some of the text in Jo's hand out... kings Park.. Kaarta. Then it hit me , that's where i have seen this blue before it's in the gum trees that guide your way to the top of the hill , its the massive blue sky that covers you up, its the pathway to the sacred site and sight of that place and the starting place of all the tracks that wind through that place like capillary of a beating heart. Content, context, meditation and timeliness. This for me is why Jo is an important artist to WA and why I enjoy her work. A catalist for reflection. My favourite piece I think is called Coolbardie III magpie .that and the lovely flower piece on the cover of her gallery flyer, which I searched for and could not find on the wall. greadily I snaffled the image into my memory like a magpie with its shiny trinkets only to find it's full blown glory when seeing the plant , the flower, the perth bush, from my car on the fight up Russell rd and home . A treasure for my bowery. Thank you Jo for a lovely experience. I encourage all to enjoy Jo Darvall's work for it is her story and a story of us. P.S. no photos go have a look for yourself :)
