*disclaimer - my visit was actually a while ago before Covid. This tour may be closed due to Covid so check in advance* HMAS Ovens is an Oberon Class submarine of the Royal Australian Navy. You access the HMAS Ovens through the WA Maritime Museum by booking a tour which is an additional cost to the museum entry fee. The tour last about 90mins and I'd advise you were comfortable, warm clothing and footwear. It's not suitable for people with less than minor mobility restrictions, or for large framed people, as you'll be climbing up and down steep ladders and squeezing through narrow entry points and doorways. I really enjoyed the tour, as the guide was a former Navy serviceman and was extremely knowledgeable and ready with answers to any questions.

What an interesting feature to have available for the public! Makes you appreciate what submariners do when protecting Australian :)

My husband and I went for a tour at the Maritime Museum to see HMAS Ovens. You meet at the museum and walk over to the decommissioned submarine. We were led by Peter who went through each section and answered our questions. You can have a maximum of ten people per tour. It’s a confined space and you need to be able to climb up and down ladders and steps. There is a practice door near the meeting spot for the tour. If you can’t do that, then you definitely should given this a miss. Not for the claustrophobic or the very young (babies, toddlers and kids under 5yo). It’s a beautiful piece of Australian history. At the very end, our guide, asked about the symbol on HMAS Ovens. I believe the “O” stands for the Oberon class of submarines which has a red boomerang because boomerangs always come back and so do our submarines. At the time of writing this, it cost my husband and I $15.00 each for a 1-1.5hour tour. Wear warm clothes and comfortable shoes.
