The Commissariat Store Museum

Built in 1828 by convicts its a little window to our penal past. We had an amazing guide whose stories about the people and the colony bought the history alive. Exhibits from then and later years when the building was put to other uses are well set out and explained. Really good experience.

A hidden gem for anyone interested in history. Highly recommend a guided tour if someone is available hugely informative and incredibly interesting

Well worth a visit despite the pounding noise of the over-development occurring next door. Genuinely historic building from 1829 with good info on convict settlement, brutality of the first officials and then separation from NSW. When we visited the museum was just getting back to business following covid closure, so we were fortunate to get guided tour by Fred.

Absolutely worth a visit.

It’s a small museum but you can learn a lot of history about Queensland convict history. There are three levels and many information to read. When we went there some primary students were visiting there to learn their local history. If you are interested in Australian history it worth to see. Entry fee is $7 adult as of September 2019.
