I hold the opinion that if you have nothing nice to say, don’t say anything at all. Suffice it to say I would not recommend him at all. It comes to something when you’re more nervous about appointments with him than you are having the surgery. I suffer with anxiety and depression and on my appointment days my anxiety went into overdrive. He made me feel belittled and dishonest in his demeanour which is a shame because his reception staff are wonderful.

Very disappointing experience with Mr Geoff Cooper during my consultation. I found him very unprofessional, confusing and a complete waste of my time and money I will be submitting a formal complaint to Ramsay Healthcare.

I saw Dr Geoff. Cooper in 2014 when I was experiencing acute pain in both knee joints, MRI scans showed that both knee joints had identical cartilage wear. He asked which knee I wanted replaced, I said that I wanted both done together, at first he refused but eventually relented. I have never looked back, at age eighty I still play badminton and take part in seniors exercise classes for an hour twice per week, importantly I have no knee joint pain. Dr Cooper has a very off putting manner, he is a man of few words and they are not always the words we want to hear but he is an excellent surgeon and I would recommend him to anyone considering knee joint replacement.

I visited Mr Cooper on Wednesday 2nd May at his offices in Joondalup. I had chosen to visit Mr Cooper after doing some research and finding that he was trained in using the latest robotic technology which had been recently introduced to Perth. I am currently suffering from problem with my right knee and after having an MRI an X-ray done I had been informed by the doctor via my report that the cartilage had worn away at the back of my patella. Upon initially meeting with Mr Cooper, I found him to be confident and friendly I explained the background to my problem stating that I play sport at a high level and have done for the past 15 years, and my aim was to try and maintain playing at the level I am doing at the moment. I also explained that I had in fact had previous surgery 12 years ago on the same knee for an tibial osteotomy back in the UK. His response to this was “well we sometimes can’t continue to do what we want to do as we get older!” I found this remark to be sarcastic and that he wasn’t listening to what I was saying. He gave me a thorough examination which I thought was extremely good. We then started to discuss the problem in more depth and he was focussing more on the surgery I had 12 years ago, with him stating that he wouldn’t have done it that way and he would have done it this way, and that I would have been up and walking within 4-6 weeks unlike the 12 weeks I was completely off my feet for. I found him to come across as arrogant at this statement. He then stated that the knee was in good condition and I had no signs of arthritis, which started to confuse me further as my report from my MRI and X-ray stated that I have signs of Mild OA behind my patella. I then realised that he was only looking at the films and not the report that showed what the findings were on the films. He then began talking about having to do another Osteotomy to correct the alignment of my leg as the first one hadn’t worked. I was surprised to hear this as I hadn’t really had any pain in my knee for the last 11 years, other than when I was 6 months into the soccer season and doing 6 hours plus of soccer a week, which is understandable given the trauma my leg had been through and the fact I am 30. At this point I became very confused and asked the question of “so if we were to do this would that stop the pain I am getting behind my knee”. He then became very aggressive and arrogant by saying the following “You are not listening to what I am saying, and you have only picked out what you want to hear from what I have said to fit with what you want the end result to be” To say I was shocked at how I was spoken to was an understatement. I felt that my question was a question that any normal person would say, and to receive the response he gave left me feeling extremely upset, intimated at how dare I ask any questions. At this point I just remained quiet, feeling like I just wanted to get out of there. He then stated that I needed to go and get further xrays of both of my legs along with a CT scan and to come back as we had spent a lot of time discussing things and on the 2nd appointment he could discuss it further. He then stated that if I was his sister that he wouldn’t recommend for me to have the procedure mentioned and that I may be able to get an injection from him as an alternative option! I felt he was just trying to make as much money out of me as possible as I was none the wiser of a way of going forward then when I entered his office 10 minutes prior. I felt ripped off of paying the $200. Although Mr cooper came across as very knowledgeable I felt he had no bed side manner and was very confusing. I would not recommend him.
