Hike with the breathtaking 360 view of the mountains at the destination.ud83dude07ud83dude0annWe did this hike in about 6 hour with 1 hour lunch break. Hike is mostly easy, hardest part is to climb the steep stairs back to the Scenic World.ud83dude13 Park at the Scenic World and climb down via Furber steps,(there are other entry points for this hike as well). Bring plenty of water, food and fruits with you. Everything tastes great on the trail.ud83dude0bud83eudd24nThere is a big rock before the castle, that's not it. Keep walking ud83dude02nAs you walk right hand side of the rock, you will see a tiny hole to climb up and you can climb all the way to the top of the castle.ud83dude0enEnjoy the view.nnEasy Option:nInstead of climbing steep stairs back up. You can use train ride ud83dude8aup to the Scenic World(Walkers Pass). It's $25 ud83dudcb0for one way up. You pay before you exit at the station.
Camped here. Plenty of spiders and heaps of webs.nFantastic place in the beautiful Blue Mountains 2 hours west of Sydney
Ruined Castle itself is a small group of rock formations. We walked there from Furber Steps,as the shorter route via Golden Staircase was closed due to landslides. The route there is hard, rocky, with areas of respite and beautiful forest scenery (rated hard). You are very likely to see lyrebirds on the walk. There is a steep climb up to the Ruined Castle site, so only really recommended for the sure - footed. If you are good at rock scrambling , you can climb up Ruined Castle and sit atop the summit and enjoy a 360 degree view of the mountains. However, when we went, it was a tad too windy to feel safe on such a small sitting surface. The walk described is about 15km return and you need to be fit. Registering your walk at Katoomba Police Station recommended before setting off.
Worth the pain for the walk.Capture good photos at top
The hike in is not too difficult, we entered from the golden stairs carpark. You will start the walk by going down roughly 250m over a 800m distance, quite steep but well maintained. The rest of the walk to Ruined Castle is easy. Once there, do climb the rocks to the top. It gives you an unobstructed 360degree view which is awesome!
