On May 14, 2016 I visited an RV camping park in Mont Orford, Quebec, Canada and paid for two nights to camp while visiting the National Park nearby. When I checked in I told the clerk that I was disabled and had a trained service animal with me and introduced the service animal. I received a park map with the park rules written in French. Later, I took a short bike ride with the service animal running next to me since my left arm is paralyzed and I can't hold the bike and the leash at the same time. I have traveled all over the US, Mexico and British Columbia with nobody interfering with us. But here at Camp Magog the employees seeing us returning to the camp spot, they yelled at me in french from their golf cart. I asked if they spoke American and I tried to explain that I couldn't hold the leash in my paralyzed arm. They kept repeating that the rules required pets to be on a leash and the leash had to be held at all times with no exceptions. I went to the registration office where the nice clerk Joanie, who took my written report which she would send to the park owners. I cancelled my second night at the park since I can't stand being humiliated and harassed by park employees because I have a paralyzed arm and am a disabled person who needs a service animal. I left the following morning and requested that the second night charge be refunded to me. The clerk called the owners who stated that there are no refunds at any time. This harassment and refusal to discuss the issue in American including the rules being written only in french and the lack of compassion by park owners and employees makes this park a very uncomfortable place for American visiting Quebec. I subsequently have had several encounters in Quebec and notice the same anti American attitude and rudeness in many businesses who on the one hand want American tourist money, but actually dislike and discriminate against American by refusing to speak American, even though the population is bi lingual. Also the written rules and all signs are only in french. In my opinion this bias against Americans is even worse than in France where Americans are generally held in high esteem and most employees in the tourism industry do speak some American. Americans beware! From my experiences Quebec likes American dollars but not Americans! The Quebec requirements for service animal certification is much more difficult and expensive than in the United States. I have requested and exemption from the Quebec requirements for disabled Americans traveling with service animals but have been refused repeatedly and with great disdain. If you are disabled visiting in Quebec, you will not be treated with respect or compassion. This is much different than in British Columbia which is much more compassionate and respectful of disabled people and Americans.
