University of Alberta Hospital Emergency Room

Just 1 question - Why? Why do you make anyone wait so so so so much, unless anyone is in dying condition? I really feel bad for the medical system here. We don’t need your free wifi service here - we need fast service! This is frustrating! If you come along with EMS only then you are priority! Wow! My wife got chest pain all of a sudden at midnight around 12:15am, and we live right across university hospital, so we rushed to Emergency without calling 911, as we entered we did inform the nurse that the pain is 9 out 10 and we need to see doctor, they got us registered in their own relaxing pace and not give #$&$& and made us wait for hours for no reason! This is when I realized why I am here!!!!!!!

Accidentally cut myself with a kitchen knife pretty deep trying to make lunch and ended up needing 5 stitches. Drove myself to emerg and when I got there I started to get very fainty, nauseous, cold, sweaty and out of it (I don't do well with blood). I told the nurses and they just told me to sit down even though I was clearly almost falling out of consciousness and couldn't talk clearly. I have anxiety and with all of the people in the room I had to walk away and I fell to the floor. I couldn't hear well, there was ringing in my ears and my vision was getting fuzzier and it stayed that way for about 5 minutes. A nurse came to me and said "you can't do that, go sit down". Her attitude was unbelievably rude. I needed a second to collect myself and I couldn't hear well but she proceeded to pull me up by my elbow, put me in a wheelchair and leave me there with everyone else while I was on the brink of fainting and experiencing anxiety. I was clearly out of it and not even one health care professional (there was about 8 in the room and they didn't seem particularly busy) paid one minute of attention to me. I'm not one to be dramatic or ask for all of the attention (in fact I usually avoid it) but I really needed just a bit of support in that moment. It would have helped majorly if someone spent ONE minute telling me to breath or reassuring that I was okay because I was forgetting to (which caused me to hyperventilate), but I guess that's too much to ask. They blatantly ignored me, my symptoms and didn't even check how bad my cut was until about 10 minutes later. It was wrapped in dish towel. If it was worse I'm not kidding I would've had to beg for help! Nobody in that room including the one who was checking the cut showed an ounce of compassion or concern which was kind of unsettling, and I hope I don't sound like i'm whining because I genuinely felt unsafe. Only when I got sent to get stitches did I feel helped, safe and cared for by the nurse and doctor, so 5 stars to them. I know these people in emerg deal with a lot but that shouldn't mean they can't have some simple human decency.

Didn't die. Would recommend. Snacks could be better.

hands down worst hospital In city, receptionist hung up on me when calling Monday morning at 9AM after thanking her, please get some compassion and better customer service!

I mean youre never happy having to go to the Emergency Room, but from start to finish the staff was awesome, very profressional and very friendly; made the whole experience comfortable and reassured me the whole way through. Thank you U of A! I'm so grateful for all the work you did 💖
