We had lots of fun at this campsite. Very family orientated so people were very friendly and considerate. We loved the fact it is close to skate park, pump track, tennis courts and you can ride your bike everywhere to town and the many bike trails and rivers of beautiful Golden. Trains do come past but this adds to the excitement of camping and bugs too are all part of the experience. The bathrooms and showers were always kept very clean and COVID procedures were well adheered to and COVID rules well displayed. We would definitely be coming back. Well done to Michelle and Joyce running the camp ground they do an amazing job!

Golden Municipal Campground is definitely a mixed bag. Positives: > Great access to hiking / biking trails. > Everyone very respectful of quiet time. > Riverside sites have great view of river/ trains. > Super friendly staff. Not As Positive: > Sites are absolutely only as deep as measured. > No grass, mostly rocky dirt. Muddy after rain. > Incredibly loud train shunting around 3am, 33% of stay. > 1st 19 sites accessed from main road. > Watch out for little kids with road & river close. Summary: Definitely a good stopover option. Best suited to units in the 25’ range.

Nice campground, the sites closest to the river are right on the walking path into town which can be both really nice (easy access to lots of amenities and the view of the river is stunning) but also feels a little bit exposed. Spray park and really nice playground nearby, as well as many walking/hiking trails. Note that the train does run past on the other side of the river, our toddler found it fascinating! Some might find the noise disruptive, we weren't too bothered by it. Campground staff are very friendly and helpful, on our trip out we had an issue with our trailer and they were very accommodating of us which I appreciated. They are also very open to feedback on how to improve the campground and customer experience. Will return now that we know which sites will work better for us!

With COVID restrictions in place, the directions given for checking in were very clear. This was our first visit to Golden and we were very pleased with the condition and location of the campground. Within walking distance to town. Our site was clean and spacious. We backed up to the Kicking Horse River. Washrooms were clean. If you like trains, then this is the place for you!

It was ok and maybe fine for a night, but I don’t really recommend this place for a multi night trip. The first 8-9 sites are literally on the road - our site overlooked a high school and a curling rink. Not a huge fan of “no fires after 11” as we often like to sit quietly around the fire until around midnight or so - but it is what it is. While I read about the trains on other reviews, I didn’t think it would bother me - but it did. The trains woke me up multiple times throughout the night - if you’re a light sleeper, avoid this place. There’s a city path that goes behind your site which we found quite busy, meaning, we always had people walking by (and through) our site - especially since we were site #2. Being in site 2 meant being right next to the office. Site “1” is actually on the other side of the office. One night, the campground let people park their camper and truck pretty much in our site (right by the common area shelter). This was not a designated site, but they let people camp there anyways, which really made our site super cramped for a night. The location is decent - good access to a spray park and a few restaurants. All in all - I wouldn’t camp here again.
