Stayed just the night. Will be back, guaranteed.
The great stuff about Gallagher Lake Resort:
We have been calling this campground our summer home for the past 15 years. We have also spent some spring and summer weekends here. We love this place! Our kids grew up here and when they can join us, they love meeting up with old friends, as most families who camp here return year after year. When our kids were little, they spent all of their time digging in the sand, fishing, swimming, and watching the “big kids” having fun on the dock. Now, they are the “big kids” and they love to return each summer. The lake is wonderful! It is spring-fed and quite “refreshing” - Some would say cold, but in the heat of Canada’s only desert, it is very welcome! You are pretty much guaranteed great weather here - If it is not warm and sunny in Oliver, the weather is most likely not too good anywhere in the province. Enjoying the lake, the beautiful backdrop of a rock face, and then the stars at night ... It is just the perfect campground setting! In the area, there are wineries galore, world class golf courses and hiking trails. There is always something to do.
Some criticisms:
This past summer was a bit upsetting, due to Covid-19. The campground did not allow out-of-province visitors. For regulars who have been spending summers here for decades, it was an incredible let-down to be told, with very little lead time, that your reservation has been cancelled, especially considering that the neighbouring properties that share the lake did allow out-of-province visitors. All of the neighbouring campgrounds, as well as hotels, motels and B&B’s did accept out-of province visitors as well. Also, of note, there are two retirement neighbourhoods on either side of the campground. Many of these residents welcomed out-of-province visitors and they also frequented the beach at the resort. We understand that it was a Parkbridge decision to deny out-of-province guests and not the decision of the Gallagher Lake staff; however, exceptions were made, as many out-of-province guests did stay at the resort throughout our time there this summer. That was disconcerting to say the least - We would have much rathered seeing all of the regular out-of-province visitors to the campground. Exceptions being made for some but not all was hard to take. We certainly hope that next summer returns to normal at Gallagher Lake, and that all of our out-of-province friends will once again be welcomed. Social distancing is quite easy when you are staying in your own RV and spending most of your time outdoors, so I do hope that the team here at the resort will spend some time conferencing with the Parkbridge head office to explain the unique circumstances of this campground specifically, and the western provinces in general, as a blanket policy for all properties across the country does not really make much sense in this instance.
The staff this summer did an incredible job of maintaining the property, regularly cleaning and sanitizing. Almost all of the security and maintenance staff who work here are super friendly, but I feel the need to point out that there are a couple of women working here that just seem stern. We never once saw them smile during our entire stay. For a family campground, we find this strange. Everyone staying at the resort is enjoying their vacation time, so you would hope that the people working here would be hospitable. Thankfully, as I have stated, most of the people working here are great, but when you cross paths with someone miserable day after day it’s a bit of a damper. I don’t think a smile is too much to ask - Especially if I am smiling at you day in and day out. (By the fifth week, I did give up and didn’t bother smiling at one particular individual anymore!) I can understand someone having an off-day - We all do, but day after day for weeks on end is not acceptable.
Great wifi with large sites. The Beach and lake are wonderful. The water is spring fed, no weeds, clear and sandy. The enormous face mountain is the perfect backdrop to gaze upon and meteor watching at night either on the beach or on the water is captivating. Quiet hour is strictly but politely enforced. Very clean campsite with a few playground for children that are not directly beside campsites so the kids playing and laughing do not disturb the campers. Nice place that I would visit again.
Great place for family camping..Has a few cabins also that can be rented...Lake is a little on the cold side, but once your in, it's great especially on the hot days we had when we were . The sites all seemed to feel quite private. Didn't feel like you were right on top of each other like some campgrounds are. Some of the sites seemed to be a little hard to get in to if you have a large truck and trailer, but everyone there seemed to be willing to help.( for example to move their vehicle if it would help. Washrooms were kept very clean with pay showers. Quiet time from 11pm to 8 am.. Beach gets quite busy, so most get down early to save spots with chairs and blankets...floaties have to be kept at your spot when not being used (not at the waterline) to make it safer for the swimmers to get in..
Really enjoyed it here. We went during covid so I cannot comment on the facilities. The lake was great. It's small and it can get cramped if there are lots of people but not as many as a public beach. Water was clean and the beach was clean. The campsites itself are very well maintained. It was mostly quiet so no complaints. Staff is always around during the day so very accommodating. I'll be back. Perfect for kids.
