Speyer is a beautiful city with many historical buildings and interesting monuments. The historical story behind the city is also special. It is also nice that the city lies on the Rhine and you can relax on the bank.

Very nice downtown. From the main train station (1.5k m) we enter through the Wormser Tor, Maximilianstrasse, which leads directly to the Speyer cathedral. Pretty old houses, numerous shops of all kinds, as well as restaurants and ice cream parlors line our way to the cathedral. On the way there is the old Jewish quarter on the right hand side (the Speyer hall). The paintings on the remaining walls show what the women's and men's synagogues looked like. The mikveh (baptismal font) of the Jews is completely intact. - let's go from the cathedral back towards the city gate is approx. 200 m next to the pilgrimage to St. James, who was donated by the old bishop Schlemmbach on the occasion of the 1000th anniversary of the cathedral, an evangelical church whose altar and d. Gallery was made entirely of wood. The galleries and the entire wooden ceiling are completely painted with figures. Very worth seeing.

Speyer is the city that hosts nationwide a year, most events organized. Highlights are the Bretzelfest, but also the Kaiser panel. Spayrer Dom, the burial ground of German emperors and kings, worth a visit. However, you should not only stroll along Maximilianstrasse, but turn right at the Trinity Church. Scenic corners around the Sonnenbruecke and the Speyererbach will be discovered, as far as one has learned to see.
