I had an appointment with the Residents' Registration Office today. In itself super quick appointment and I'm out with what I wanted. But when I got to the appointment on time and rang the doorbell, I was informed that I still had to wait outside (in front of the building) because there was still someone there. No problem. The same situation arose with the next appointment after me, only that the person had already been let into the building and should take a seat in the waiting area. I have a lot of understanding about the current situation, wear a mask even if it isn’t necessarily hung out and so on, so I didn’t take it too bad to wait outside (outside the building). But then the same law applies to EVERYONE whether German last name or not !! And that was exactly what went through my head when I left the administration, was it because of my foreign last name? That I wasn't allowed in the waiting area ?! For some, this may sound exaggerated only when you experience it, the feeling of being treated differently. For me it is everyday racism that starts with such “little things”.
