Camping Campéole Le Brabois

Only stayed here for a night to continue the journey the day after but all was fine, clean and pretty spacious late season.

Nice and quiet location, we stay there just for a night. The facilities were ok but no toilet paper, later we discovered that is usual in France. The problem was the powersupplys: half of them not working, later we find that this is also oft in camping sites in France.

Very open and well appointed site with flat tent pitches and plenty of shade. Great for a quick visit of Nancy.

Such a shame... Let’s start with the positives. The chap who checked us in, the manager I think, was very cheerful and polite. The rest of the staff we encountered we also polite. The site is quite large but there are sufficient facilities for the number of pitches. Our pitch, which was fully serviced, was big enough for our 7.5m caravan and shady enough for us not to bother with the awning for our 6 night stay. There is a bus stop just outside the site with regular services into Nancy. Next to the site is a park which we jogged around, you can get a nice view of Nancy from the park. It’s such a shame the site is badly let down by the negatives which now follow... There was a toilet block right opposite our pitch and despite the site literature saying the toilets were cleaned 3 times a day they weren’t, we watched! When the cleaners did turn up they didn’t do a particularly effective job, for example sometimes the floors were only swept not mopped. We weren’t convinced the toilet bowls were cleaned with a stiff brush and cleaning fluid. Also the bins in the female half of the block were not emptied for a couple of days and began to smell. The lights in the men’s half didn’t seem to work and in the female section they went out half way through my wife’s shower. We mentioned the cleanliness issue to site staff but not much happened until the day we left when the toilet block was given a more thorough cleaning. The door latch on one of the washing machines was faulty and our clothes were trapped inside. The chap I believe to be the site manager had to release them. The gate barriers allowing access and egress from the site didn’t always work with the code we were given. This was obviously a known problem as it was mentioned when we checked in. Now the worst problem. The site literature showed a chemical toilet disposal point at one of the toilet blocks but it was no longer there. So the only point where toilet cassettes could be emptied was at the motor caravan service point - not ideal but not really a problem, we have encountered this elsewhere in France. The main problem was that both the taps on the service point were marked as being for drinking water yet they were the only taps available to flush out toilet cassettes. Therefore someone wanting to fill up their motor caravan drinking water tank would be using taps contaminated with toilet waste. You will note from my photo that the cassette rinsing tap is missing. I mentioned this to the staff and you can see they crossed out the labelling saying the taps could be used for drinking water. Based on our experience I’m afraid we can’t recommend this site until the problems we noted have been rectified.

We love the Capéole Sites, they all have a good standered, this one even had a heated swimming pool
