Lovely to revisit this pub. Friendly safe service. Social distancing and not too many customers made for a very nice experience. And of course the beer was fabulous.
Possibly the worst dining experience i have ever had on entering there is a notice no dirty work clothing and no foul language, Five of us entered at 18.55 for a 19.00 booking we ordered our meals and drinks at the bar where there was families with young children we where shown to the restaurant area within minutes a group of about five male aged between 40 to 60 in their conversation started with foul mouthed language this lasted right though out our meal, It remained unchallenged by the management or staff untill my wife asked the waitress to ask them o tone it down they didn't, The food was slightly less than average so we finished up without having a pudding and without leaving a tip and will never return again, From what i can gather the men in question where known to the staff as locals so shame on you and the men in question. I would add in response to the management that the men in question had been there for sometime before we arrived and had been conducting them selves in the same manner without any intervention by the staff till my wife complained this is unacceptable.
No guest beers on tonight. Bit of a downer but I have been coming to this pub on holiday all my life since I was a twinkle in my parents eyes, 51 years. I still love it and really enjoy the coastal path nearby.
We've stayed in anglesey for a week and this was by far the best food we've eaten since been here. Went for our last two nights. The food was gorgeous both nights. We would definitely return and would highly recommend.
AVOID AVOID AVOID!!!!!!!!
The Pilot Boat had been recommended to us by a family friend who had been earlier in the year.
We were told the food was amazing and we should definitely pay a visit whilst on our family get away.
We tried to call the Pilot Boat to book a table via the number on the website, but the number was incorrect. We should of known at this point it was only going to get worse.
After emailing the contact email, we managed to book a table for 6 of us no problem - we now know why!
We were looking forward to a nice meal to end our much needed family week away.
Upon arrival, we were informed from a lady behind the bar, we had been ‘put in the back room’ and she pointed across to the far side of the room.
We walked into the ‘back room’, where we were greeted with what can only be described as an old mans beer cave, right next to the toilets!
The tables were so low, with small stools as the chairs, which are not ideal with my grandad being disabled, the decoration looked like it hadn’t been changed in years and there was an old musty smell to the room. Not exactly what you’d expect from somewhere you looking to have a nice meal!!
First impressions already not great.
After sitting for ten minutes, no one came to the table with menus, even though they knew we were there for food. We had to go the bar to get them ourselves.
We sat down looking at the menus, however they were different to the one advertised on the website, causing a lot of disappointment as the menu was much smaller and not much variation.
After about 15 minutes, nobody came to the table to take our order, so my father went to the bar to ask and they then advised we needed to go to the bar to order. Something which would of been useful to have know when being passed the menus surely!
Food was ordered at 17:15. Starters and mains.
Chicken goujons, 2 creamy mushrooms, prawn cocktail and 2 whitebait.
6:00, we received our starters.
The creamy mushrooms, had that much cream on them it was hard to eat more than 4 spoons as it was too sickly and as for the chicken goujons - where was the chicken?? They were massive but it was simply just a massive piece of deep fried batter. Basically inedible.
After waiting 20 minutes for the starter plates to be removed once we had finished, we then had another 30 minute wait before the mains arrived.
2 lamb shank, 2 scampi, fish and chips and hunters chicken.
The 2 scampi arrived first, with chips that looked like the deep fat fryer had arrived on the plate as well, they were that greasy!
Same issue on the fish and chips and hunters chicken - although my nan said the fish itself was nice - probably the only good thing about this visit!
When the lamb shank was placed in front of me, I was speechless.
The lamb was completely burnt, charcoaled on the outside, completely tasteless and just an outright disgrace of a meal! The mash was clearly ‘Smash’ made from powder, it all came up in one lump when I put my fork into it! And as for the veg, it was over cooked frozen bag veg! I’ve never been so disgusted in a meal!
At this point, we decided enough was enough.
No apology from any member of staff and luckily for them, my father made me leave before I could say anything!!
AVOID AVOID AVOID!!!
It will ruin your day! And your holiday if you were in the same position as us!! And not to mention the complete waste of money!!
