When I arrived I was great fondness! Only have I ever been treated like that by a metanol drinking polish man!
Above all great hotel great staff and exceptional breakfast!! I'm exceptionally fond of the tatty scones, mushrooms and the pentagon style layout of the modern extension!!
Would highly recommend!!
Value for money, comfy bed. Robert the main reception fella really attentive and chatty (a lovely fella). Good for an overnight x
Booked a double, when we arrived no double rooms were cleaned. 260 rooms in the place! The good service was discounting our room however the double rooms were still able to be purchased on the booking sites.
There was a bad smell in the hotel. It got progressively worse as we went through unventilated rooms towards the bar- bar area being the worst. I now realise the smell is likely coming from the carpets. Carpets in the bar must have soaked up lots of alcoholic beverages in their time.
The only window to the bar area is a door to the outside beer garden. However it said Do Not Open! This looked like a fire escape.
The barman wasn't very upbeat or friendly. He just stared at me until I realised this was his way of asking me what I'd like to drink. Didn't see a smile on this guys face all night. They don't accept card at the bar... the bar closes at 10.45pm on a Sat Night?
So we took our drinks and ran back through the labyrinth of stuffy smelly rooms and could not find our way to the beer garden. We got lost downstairs out the back near the garden room.
We managed to get directions from the reception to go through reception, out the front door, round the driveway and the beer garden is on the left. What a long way for a shortcut!
We pushed the beds together ( which were not the same hieght) to make a double. The fan in the bathroom was on all night. I woke up at 6am thinking someone was cutting the grass but it was actually just the fan it was so loud.
When I realised checkout was at 10am on a Sunday I asked the night before if we could do 11am ( usually places will be happy to give you a little hour extra - especially if they have plenty of rooms. The hotel appeared empty but they wanted to charge us for the extra hour.
Staff should be more polite when asking you to wear a face mask. Especially as staff were not wearing face masks themselves. Do as they say not as they do.
I asked the manager for a copy of my room invoice. He responded by saying we will refund anything your due back. I said ok, but can I have a copy of my room bill please? He got up and walked away leaving me confused about what's happening with my request.
Thankfully the member of staff recognised my disappointment and took the time to listen to my experience. He printed my invoice and gave it to me with sincerity and apologised for the experience.
This venue could be outstanding. What a lovely setting and great old building. Happy with the price we paid. I think we saw the building and thought it looks amazing from the outside....and set our expectations too high.
Set your expectations for 2* and hopefully if they read enough of our reviews they will improve. This place has the potential. It's just needs managed better.
Front of house staff was really good and nothing was a bother. Restaurant closed but you can get basic bar food at reasonable prices. Beautiful bar. I asked for a quiet room and I got one. The room itself needs urgent updating but beds were ok for the price. Great bath but again quite outdated. We enjoyed ourselves.
Warm water in a shower and really comfortable bed. It is clean but from other side walls are dirty and also curtains. Free car park. Everything inside hotel looks really old and ready to change to new model. It reminds me old communist hotel in Poland from 80s. There is no internet unless you want to pay
