I have been to Moorfields about half a dozen times this year. On each visit i was fully informed about what they were doing, and why. The staff are very much experts in their fields.

Was supposed to be having surgery here in 5 days. Have been in contact with them a lot this week ensuring I had all the right information. Have had to rearrange work so I can get a few days off (not easy when next week is half term). They decide to call me today saying that the consultant who was supposed to do it is away (and they have known about it for weeks) and so my surgery cannot be performed. I can either screw over my work (and not leave them with enough staff...potentially jeopardising my job and therefore my ability to pay my rent and bills) and go in a day early OR have to wait until January, meaning I will have to go through all the pre operation appointments again. I had my pre op done in July...why was I given a surgery date at last week of allowance in the first place, meaning there was no leeway in case you screwed up and had to delay the surgery for any reason (like what has happened here)? And if you knew that the consultant would be away weeks ago- why have you only just thought to tell me about it now when I have spoken to you during the week?! It seems the hospital cares little for their patients, particularly working age ones, and expects us to be able to drop everything at their whim, or be condescending when you try to say you have other commitments to think about. It is a shame, as their medical staff, have always been polite and knowledgeable. The nurse named Cecelia, is particularly good at this, and every time I have spoken with her I have been reassured about the procedure, as I am terrified of having to have the surgery in the first place. Also good luck if you have the pleasure of dealing with the male receptionist, whom I think may be one of the 'friends' volunteers (oh the irony...). I have spoken with him on multiple occasions, both in person and on the phone, and each time have found him to be patronising and very, very rude. He clearly seems to hate the job and the people who have to use the service and will take it out on you, making you feel unwelcome as soon as you arrive.

I have had various problems with my eyesight (I won't bore you with the details), and I've attended this clinic on numerous occasions. The staff have always treated me with respect, kindness and professionalism. Regardless of their position within the clinic. It can get be busy, owing to it's good reputation, so be patient and understanding. They deal with different types of problems related to the eye. Therefore, you go to separate sections within the consulting area into which you are called by whoever is treating you. This means people may arrive after you but have their names called out before yours. Occasionly, this can cause murmours of complaint from people in the waiting area who are unaware of this and think someone is jumping the queue. When in fact, they are just seeing a different specilist to you. If this place was run by a bunch of incompetent, indifferent (choose your own expletives at this point) I'd gladly tell you all about it. Nowhere is perfect and this outreach clinic of Moorfields' is no exception to that rule. However, besides their medical expertise, they also understand that problems with ones eyesight can be very worrying for patients and, their relatives or loved ones who attend the clinic with them. It's this combination which makes the difference between somewhere being average or excellent. And, fortunately, for myself and many others this place is excellent. It's okay. You're in safe hands. P.S. There is a vending machine at the clinic with the usual sort of content. And, as usual, there is a numbered keypad where you enter the appropriate numbers to get what you want. So, remember to take extra care when entering the number for the choice you've made. Otherwise, you'll be another patient with eye problems who ended up getting a packet of cheese & onion crisps instead of the bar of chocolate you wanted. 👍❤
