The hotel is in an absolutely gorgeous part of the country, and is conveniently placed for all manner of activities. Its not in a town though. The hotel itself is nicely laid back and quiet, although it could do with a refresh, which according to the (friendly and helpful) staff it is going to get it the next few weeks under the new owners. The Paddocks Hotel has massive potential, provided it is updated accordingly. It seems the new owners are aware of the shortcomings and are taking steps to rectify things. I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again, which is an endorsement.

We were working away during last week and during the lockdown due to covid. This hotel was brilliant. They were so accommodating and even though we were late sorted us out food and made sure everything was perfect. The welcome was so warm after having a bad day at work!! It’s hotels like theirs that really deserve a better rating. Would definitely stay here again.

Liked · The hotel is set in a large garden with ample parking which the river assuming runs at the end of the property. the room was clean and the beds were soft. Breakfast was a full English and the staff were responsive to extra requests. The hotel staff were very friendly . Disliked · The description of the hotel was not as we received. Having rooms grouped and priced by view, rather than generically would help manage customer expectations, e.g. a garden/river view vs car park. This would apply to breakfast, if there is no cereal or fruit I wouldn't advertise a continental breakfast. I understand that certain restrictions because of the current situation that newspapers or fruit etc are withdrawn but I expect the description and price to reflect this, not £94.

A lovely hotel hidden in Symonds Yat. The tea room had a stunning view and was exceptionally clean. The sparkling afternoon tea was lovely - the sandwiches consisted of mature cheddar cheese and ham (both with salad), the quiches had lovely flavours - both choices were what I personally enjoyed. The scones - I was a little disappointed that there wasn't jam available with the clotted cream (I had never tried scones, clotted cream and honey before - was certainly different!) The honey was delicious! Personally I prefer jam with them. The cakes were coffee, lemon mousse, raspberry sponge and pistachio - the first 3 were very rich (the lemon mousse was a tad sharp for me) but couldn't really taste the pistachio cake. The prosecco was quite dry (not a huge prosecco fan) but all-in-all it was a lovely experience.
