Reviews
For a hotel with such good reviews I was greatly disappointed which could be forgiven if the rooms didn't come with such a high price.
All the pictures on the website give the impression that the rooms are spacious and finished to a high standard however after 5 minutes of being there i found this to be far from reality.
I have stayed in bigger rooms in hotels in Singapore for a fraction of the price, the toilet didn't appear to have been cleaned in some time and the lighting in the room was terrible.
From the moment we arrived we weren't made to feel welcome.
The temperature throughout the entire building was so high we were unable to sleep through most of our stay and the water temperature in the shower never exceeded lukewarm.
The only saving grace for this hotel was the grounds and its convenient location in the city centre.
I was expecting the food to make up for all other shortcomings so far as it appears to be of very high standard on the pictures on the website.
Considering they charge 18£ for breakfast when not included with the rooms for the night, I was expecting it to be very generous, cooked to order and locally sourced ingredients.
When the breakfast finally arrived after 40 minutes of waiting (we got ours before people who had arrived a long time before us) it consisted of one sausage that looked as though it had been cooked days ago, 2 bits of barely cooked bacon a tomato which was cooked perfectly and for some reason half a plate of mushrooms, no beans as listed on the menu and I had to ask for toast to accompany my breakfast.
My partner was served a cold latte and someone else had to send their breakfast back 3 times before a satisfactory one was served.
In no way shape or form was the experience worth even half of the asking price and I didn't find the staff to be carrying out a 4.5 star service.
There was no access to the bar and during our stay work was being carried out with a hammer drill which could be heard resonating throughout the whole hotel.
The painting and other tradesmanship throughout the building was all finished to a very low standard and did not give off the feeling of being in a well kept, cared for establishment.
I would advise considering a premier inn as you are likely to get better service and a better night's sleep there for a third of the price.
We were given a voucher for an hotel break and chose the Hotel du Vin, Winchester.
It is located in the city and was easy to find. Parking was on site, in a secure car park
We were welcomed and given all necessary information and directions to our room.
The room was spacious with high ceilings and bathroom en suite
We had modern amenities, shower gels, shampoo etc. Television, coffee making machine, fridge, kettle and bath robes.
Dining was Covid secure and informal.
We chose a 3 course meal from the prix fixe menu, which was very good.
Breakfast was all waitress served and very comprehensive.
All in all, we would go again.
Winchester is lovely.
Wouldn't waste your money!!
Extremely disappointing my room had no lighting but 2 little bed side lamps which hardly worked. Room was not covid clean
Staff were rude and lazy
Food was unsatisfying and took ages
Extremely hot in hotel
Overly priced
Get bigger and better room at travel lodge
Was disgusted at how we were treated and would never recommend this hotel to anyone
The best thing about it was leaving
Had a very unsatisfactory stay! Was part of a wedding party. The hotel staff weren’t polite or very helpful. Would not!! Stay here again.
Extremely disappointing, most of the rooms in our party had no lights just bedside lamps meaning they were sat in the dark. A number of the rooms were dirty or unclean, our toilet still had "marks" in the bowl from a previous guest. During breakfast the service was appalling with some people still waiting for their food to arrive while others had finished.
The customer service is a joke, very rude and unhelpful staff. Our whole party felt unwelcome from the start, this could have been overlooked if we hadn't needed to rely on the staff to rectify the numerous short comings.
