Fantastic return to George IV. Both food and service were first class. Big thanks to Corrine our waitress. I will be back and happily recommend it.
First visit since reopening, very friendly staff, fab menu and the food was excellent, all in a safe environment
Much improved, very good service & good food
Food amazing and service fabulous and the place looks warm and welcoming
My partner and I had a meal in a greene king pub in st albans a couple of weeks before and it was lovely so we decided to try this greene king pub for a treat.
We were slightly disappointed that they didnt offer the 2 meals for £12 deal that was offered in the st albans greene king pub as we figured it was the same chain, we thought they would offer the same deals. So be careful when making presumptions!!
Regardless we had our meal which was lovely.
We had the sharer platter as a starter which was amazing.
Everything was delicious and tbh we could have just had that as a meal cause the portions were very generous!
My partner had a fancy burger with all the extras it comes with. It looked fantastic and he thoroughly enjoyed it. I had the gammon with chips pineapple and an egg. Also lovely and cooked perfectly.
The meal came in at just under £40 (without a tip) which also included a pint of beer, a latte and a pint of diet coke.
The latte was beautiful and came with mini shortbread biscuits which I thought was a lovely touch.
We did add a tip. The tips all go into a pot and are split between everyone. Which I have conflicted feelings about personally. I think when you get good service from server you like to reward them. But equally if the food was also amazing you would hope the tips are shared with the people making it. So a bit of a difficult one really.
In this pub they have a one way system that I felt was a little odd as it means if you go to the toilet you then have to exit the pub walk around to the front and come back in through the main entrance.
Personally I felt a bit of a wally doing this and it was raining so it was slightly unpleasant.
However if it is keeping people safe then I understand and appreciate the reasoning behind it. I just wish everyone followed the rules.
The tables have markers on them that tell you they have been sanitized when you walk in and once you are seated the marker is removed. I think this is a good idea and more places should do this.
There are plenty of hand sanitizer stations dotted around the pub as well which is great
The whole feel of the pub is quaint and charming. The cleanliness was 5 star too.
My partner and I enjoyed our visit and would return again.
Every member of staff we encountered was extremely polite and professional.
My main reason for taking the time to write this review was due to the staff or at least one member in particular.
The lovely young lady that seated us, took our order and was very attentive on the whole. She was polite warm and friendly. She offered her own review or opinion on the sharing platter that we chose. She chatted with us but not to much. She had the balance just perfect. She checked in with us as well to make sure the food was ok.
Her name was Olivia and she definitely deserves some recognition. Big well done and a pat on the back to Olivia. Thank you for doing your job so well! You are an asset to the company!
We also spoke with Jamie the duty manageress. She was polite and took time to talk with me also and another lady called Lindy (sorry if I spelt that wrong) which although only a brief encounter, she was also polite and welcoming.
Thank you to everyone but especially Olivia!
When we left Olivia even thanked us and I said "no THANK YOU"
All hospitality staff should take a leaf out of her book.
If you have made it this far reading I strongly recommend visiting for a meal!
