What a pleasure to visit, even in these unusual times. Service was excellent, food is gorgeous and location is spacious and relaxing. Menu prices are on the higher side, but as they say, you get what you pay for! We'll definitely be back!

The Chequers was built in 1918, and has Edwardian cast iron fireplaces, and an arts and crafts feel to it. There is a beer range of about eight pumps, all of which are well kept. Good company.

I disagree with the post about the landlady being too young there is nothing wrong with being an entrepreneur! This pub is probably one of the best real ale selections in Stevenage the reason there wasn’t many on as it’s very popular and sells out quick! Yes the list is on the wall by the entrance, but you can get up and read the list ( as long as you gave your mask on!) very COVID friendly pub.

This is a real ale pub. It has an interesting selection. However they are listed in a board by the entrance where Covid restrictions mean you can't stand and they don't provide a table side list. When seated they expect you to text your order (no actual table service) but without properly providing a menu to make your choice. It's a shame as I like to support real ale pubs.

It's going down hill under the new landlady. She seems very young and incompetent in elevating the pub to better levels. There is no food, service is provided with a sense of panic and it's very expensive. The selection of ales aren't too great and the atmosphere is gradually dying. Unfortunately they've lost a customer in me and my wife.
