It's an odd place. The building itself is beautiful, but what's inside is a Greene King pub. The decor in the rooms is quite tired and tatty, and what we tried from the (standard pub) menu was fairly mediocre, except for the burgers, which were lovely, and the wines were decent, the beer was good. But the staff are absolutely brilliant: friendly, welcoming, helpful, attentive and efficient. So thanks to them, we had a good weekend, and for a family room for 4 it was very good value.

We chose this place due to it looking beautiful from the exterior. The Covid talk was excellent. We waited to order 3 meals until after our waitress finished on her mobile phone. My father’s whiskey and ginger topped up to more than half the bottle in his glass before serving, which isn’t as he likes it. She should ask. Milk for tea was served in a jug with old coffee stains solidify around and down the side and when we asked for a replacement we were given a teacup of milk, which is impossible to work with and told there were no more jugs. Two waitresses were bitterly discussing how one had had her working hours cut, which made for an uncomfortable atmosphere. Food came. The garlic mushrooms were like bullets, I lost two from the table trying to get them on my fork. My father’s fish strips had been fried in ‘too hot’ oil and burnt as were the mushrooms. The fish had curled up solid inside burnt batter making it impossible to negotiate or enjoy I gave my views to the entry desk attendant who seemed to think that knocking off around a tenner for our complaint was enough to satisfy us. We had taken my father out for a treat and this experience was underwhelming.

They've really got things right in terms of being covid-safe. Met at reception desk - assigned a table in the bar and staff were radioed through to expect us. Showed to a lovely table in the bar and given attentive table service. Great ale selection. Well done guys - we'll be back😃

Stunning building and grounds. The staff are very friendly and accommodating. The menu is varied to suit all ages and is cooked beautifully. We had a lovely evening out. I would definitely go back and recommend it to others 😀

Beautiful historic building and gardens. The staff was very friendly. The beef and ale pie was one of the best I've ever had. The rest of my party enjoyed their meals as well, excellent quality.
