A lovely little place in a quaint market town famous for its pies. I ordered the ploughman's with the recommended ale... The only problem we had was finishing it (which is a nice problem to have) We asked about the pink cheese, which I'd never had before, we were told it's Windsor red and if we liked it we could get it from the specialist cheese shop up the road, also worth a visit. The decor is keeping with the history and is nice and relaxing, I'd absolutely come back again.

Really like this place. Lots of atmosphere. The food is good the staff are nice. Dog friendly. They have recently started charging for the car park which is fine if you spend more than five pounds you get your parking money back. Unfortunately I don't drink, so if I'm popping in to have a quick coffee with friends it makes it quite expensive, hence we now meet where the parking is free.

What a lovely pub. Great atmosphere and steeped in history. Staff are really friendly and attentive and the food is first rate. Compliments to the chef. And to complete my visit they have a timeline. Lovely and we will revisit and we will recommend.

Nice setting with good quality food. Unfortunately if you try to order the steak pie they are often sold out which seems strange for a town renowned for its meat pies. Tip. Get there at opening time if you want a meat pie.

Booked a table for 4 adults here for Saturday 8th February . Both parties travelling 2 hours from different parts of the country to meet up. Glad we chose this pub lovely food friendly polite staff. Felt like we'd gone back in time full of history. Would recommend a visit here. 👍👌
