What a wonderful week we have spent at North Lodge, we were all sad to have to leave! This lovely campsite on the owners' smallholding was the off-grid, rustic, close-to-nature break that we needed. Loved the secret camping pitches, the compost loos and the campfire area. Also the abundance of beautiful flora and fauna. The current situation means the owners have reduced numbers of people staying and this must have been a very tough year for business, however everything possible had been put in place to ensure everyone's safety - with very clear and concise guidelines sent in advance and explained on arrival - a fact we were very appreciative of. Communication has been clear and immediate throughout, from booking to the end of our stay - nothing was too much trouble with Jane and Martin always available and indulging our frequent questions about the area and about managing a smallholding, thank you both very much, we will undoubtedly see you soon!

An amazing idyll that’s a labour of love for Jane and Martin. Very basic and off-grid, but that’s the appeal. COVID has brought its challenges but they have risen to them here with the ongoing works to develop separate showers for each unit. The Preseli cabin shower isn’t quite finished but I used it this morning and it’s more than sufficient, nicely modern and clean. Martin kindly let me look at the other units for hire and they are amazing if you’re looking for something a bit different and quirky. Be sure to bring your essentials, candles and firewood, battery packs and chargers!

We booked to stay at this off grid rustic cabin 4th-7th.aug 20. We knew they have no electricity and rustic. But the extend of the lack of amenities came later when we were sent a long list of what werent provided due to Covid. We had to bring beddings, all cooking and eating utensils and they did provide a cooker after we called. The explained due to Covid, they are asking guests to bring their own. Knowing what we know now, just as well as the cabin wasn't clean. There was no running water to wash hands or dishes. Only a shared water tap. They provided a water bottle to get water. There is only a compost loo which was dark, full to cobwebs and I ended up buying Dettol wipes to wipe down the loo and the seats. On the morning of arrival Jane called to say we won't have a shower as it wasn't finished and they weren't doing shared shower facilities. They did give us a partial refund for the shower when I asked. As we were looking forward to get away we agreed to try out the camper shower which heats up in the sun and then they provided a tent in our area. There was no way to hang the shower and because there wasn't any sun, the water was stone cold. They did offer to provide warm water to fill the bag but we went to our friends who lives half hour away as we can't face having a cold shower and there were 4 of us! I called Jane prior to leaving to tell her the cabin wasn't clean and surrounding areas. The loo was crusty, no hand washing facilities, cobwebs and that the area was a dumping ground for materials and tyres which is not safe for children. The pictures on Google are misleading. On leaving they asked us to call and bag all rubbish, recycle diff materials, strip beds etc by 9am! We did the rubbish at 7.30am but the bins were full to the brim! The dustpan and brush provided to sweep up the cabin was full of gunge so I didn't touch it. It also seems strange that a long list of Covid procedures were sent but basic cleanliness and hygiene was not adhered. I told the hosts privately on Airbnb and review accordingly based on our experience. I don't want another family arriving and have to endure our experience. It is a shame as the cabin could be sweet but it need a good clean. Jane and martin tried to help but we felt unsafe and uncomfortable due to the cleanliness of the place. We ended up taking the kids out all day and couldn't wait to leave. I could leave but unfortunately everywhere was full.
