My husband and I stayed at Hawthorn House for 6 nights. We had the king size double bedroom overlooking the back garden which was spotlessly clean, quaintly decorated, and has a large en-suite. Alison is very Covid aware with all necessary precautions in place allowing for peace of mind. Alison is a super host - nothing is too much trouble for her. With her help, she advised on local pubs/restaurants and advised us of any special deals - always good to know! We were attending a local equine course as were two other residents. The atmosphere created within Hawthorn is so relaxed and friendly that the 4 of us quickly became friends over breakfast and ended up eating out together every evening for the duration of the course. Breakfast is absolutely lovely with local produce procured. I’m not a breakfast person , but had a cooked breakfast every morning - scrambled eggs to die for! Our breakfast table overlooked the garden and we regularly saw a range of birds having their early morning bath in addition to appearances from the local grey squirrel. We are hoping to come back down south early next year and will most definitely be looking to stay at Hawthorn House again.

Had a lovely stay here last week. Alison could not have been more helpful. If in the area this is a must stay. Rooms are ultra clean and tidy, modern TV, and the breakfast is one of the best I’ve had at b&b stays. Lovely relaxing garden at the rear which we made full use of. I will definitely be returning.

The hostess was warm, polite and friendly. The breakfast was cooked to perfection and all locally sourced, we we stuffed but still had seconds. The local area is peaceful and a welcome change to the city with good restaurants and sites in the area. However, my personal highlight would have to be the garden! It was straight out of the Frances Burnett novel, rich with flowers, apple trees and even hammocks and tea houses. Spot on for a much needed country escape.

Excellent stay could not fault a single thing. Great host warm and really friendly welcome fantastic room and wonderful breakfast beautifully prepared with first class local produce. And a garden that you can use and loose yourself in fantastic first thing in the morning or later in the day. It was just a shame we had to leave. This B&B will be our only choice on our return to the area. Thank you so much Alison & Geoff

Overall a true five star rating is deserved. We stayed in October and the host Alison was always on hand with advice and tips. Quirky place and a lovely breakfast. We would definitely return.
