Halfway House Inn Country Lodge

Lovely dog friendly place. Very good value with excellent food. Staff extremely friendly, nothing too much trouble. Even provided a sausage for our dog at breakfast.. Only criticism would be that the skylight in our room could do with a clean. However would definitely stay again

Not very friendly staff None of the staff wore masks & bar closes at 9pm.! No screen at bar Definitely not Covid aware Would NOT recommend or stay there again One of the days we stayed our room was not cleaned despite the cleaner being in the next room and seeing us go out No apology was given - the woman my husband complained to just shrugged her shoulders Also as all the electrical sockets were covered by the beds so they were using extension leads with 3 things already plugged in Not very safe in a hotel room Also no hair dryer - had to ask for one and more coat hangers Whole place seemed scruffy and very dated They stated all rooms are on ground floor but ours was on first floor and we had to use a very steep fire exit to get to it and as I am disabled and have to use a stick it was a nightmare for me Apparently the hotel is used a lot by builders and people on business in the area for a day or two which may explain it's general appearance ? The food was adequate but certainly not anything to write home about and they won't let you buy a BOTTLE of wine presumably as they make more money selling it by the glass I confess I have never come across this policy before - perhaps I've led a very sheltered life ?! I spoke to several people over the 4 days we stayed and they all complained about the same things so I am very suspicious about the 'excellent' reviews they claim as I certainly didn't hear any and the biggest gripe seemed to be the bar closing so ridiculously early The only good thing about the place was the lake/ pond which was ok but certainly not special Wish we'd gone elsewhere I won't believe a review for a very long time!

Stayed here a while now, made to feel welcome every Monday and missed every Friday. Meals are generous and tasty. Rooms kept clean and tidy. Honestly can't fault anything.

We stayed for a overnight trip in the area and must say it was very pleasant. The rooms were both lovely and clean with the evening meal and breakfast both excellent. A evening walk around the lake was lovely too.
