After 13/14 years of visiting the farm with my family and having some lovely times growing up there, we have finally said goodbye and not on good terms. The place has been deteriorating for years now and this seems to have become worse in the past year as when we visited on Saturday we were all shocked at the absolute state of the place. The farmyard is simply a health hazard, the house hadnt been cleaned properly at all- it's a farm and so some mess is expected and we've been used to the farming lifestyle having grown up visiting here every year, often more than once a year, however this was disgusting. We arrived Saturday midday and by Sunday morning had begun looking into alternative accommodation arrangements! The bed bases on the double bed (two single bases pushed together) did not match meaning the mattress was uneven, which led to my Dad receiving horrible back pains. The bunk beds were very small and extremely wobbly. They were occupied by my two younger brothers- the eight year old taking top bunk and the fourteen year old on the bottom. At the bottom there was simply no room at all for him to sit up and he could hardly fit in there. He's not a large boy either but little at barely 5ft tall so even most 12 year olds would probably struggle. As for the top bunk, when my younger brother stood on the ladder it immediately begun to drop and break- again, he's only small. This meant that the ladder could not be used and so he had to use a chair to climb into bed which is simply very dangerous and could have led to all kinds of trouble. We contemplated switching them around however didnt dare put the eldest in the top bunk as although he'd find getting up there easier they were so unstable we felt it'd just topple over whilst they slept. The actual farmyard is a story of its own. There are all kinds of things left strewn around which are extremely hazardous as young children are encouraged to wander freely. Large metal barn doors left swinging open in the wind, nails protruding from walls at what is eye level for many children and general broken machinery and junk left everywhere. Not to mention the dead chicken which has clearly been left for a while in its badly rat infested coop, half eaten to the bone and left there to rot- 'do you want to feed the chickens' and off the children go, to discover that! In the short time we were there one boy was shot and the other bitten on the face by a dog they KNEW was nippy yet allowed to run with young children. No apology was received off of Carlton when we discussed this and came home to find he'd sent some nasty messages to myself, whos been visiting since I was 4 and saw them all as a second family, informing me that nobody liked us there anyway and they've spent the past 14 years pretending! How very mature, but have heard him slagging off many others before so not surprising. Absolutely disgusted. BOOK ELSEWHERE!!!
